New students will be placed in the class that corresponds with their knowledge and age. We may provide a knowledge assessment.
Classes are subject to change depending on registration enrollment.
All non-members of the Hellenic Community of Vancouver will need to apply a $75 registration fee to each program.

Students start to learn the Greek language in a fun and easy way. They are provided with opportunities to participate and use Greek in a wide range of activities. The curriculum has an important emphasis on speaking.
Students begin to interact with their peers and teacher using simple language and gestures for exchanges such as greetings and farewells. They participate in guided activities and simple songs, rhymes and games using repetitive language. Students recognize and reproduce the sounds and letters of the Greek alphabet, identifying how they are represented in words and read vowel-consonant combinations.

Students interact with peers and their teacher to exchange personal information about everyday routines involving the school and home environment. They interact in class activities, using questions, statements and responses to enhance, demonstrate and share understanding. They recognize and use elements of Greek grammar, such as word order, gender and singular/plural forms to describe people, objects or events. They also identify and use language features of different types of oral and written texts, such as dialogue, descriptions, short narratives and reports. They begin to explore the relationship between language, culture and how they are reflected in communication styles.

Students initiate and sustain interactions to share ideas, thoughts and opinions about people, objects, places and events. They engage and respond to imaginative texts, describing and expressing thoughts and opinions about key ideas, characters, places and events. They develop knowledge of grammatical elements such as tenses, combining them with an increasing range of verbs, nouns, and adjectives. They use conjunctions to construct and expand sentences. They start to understand the relationship between language and culture and how they are reflected in communication styles.

What if I don't live in Vancouver?
We offer most of our accredited language classes virtually, so a family does not need to be close to our community to learn.
You can learn Greek from anywhere. All times posted on the website are in Pacific Time.
Which payment methods do you accept?
You can pay once you register for your classes via any major credit card.
Should I become a member?
Members of the Hellenic Community of Vancouver receive a different rate for classes. Membership rates can be found here.
I'm an adult - do you provide Greek classes for adults?
Yes, we do! We offer Greek Language classes for adults. You can register right from this page.

Greek Language for Adults

The course assumes no or some knowledge of the Greek language.
The focus is on speaking using simple grammar through intensive class participation. The course will develop all the skills with emphasis on listening and speaking in various social situations, such as shopping, invitations, asking for instructions, describing family members, your home and neighbourhood, etc. At the end of the course, students will be able to use appropriate greetings, give information, to express likes and dislikes using proper language.
